My name is Hamilton Kennedy. I am an ex-patient of public mental health services. Above all, I value justice and liberty for mental health service users and refusers.
I have had experience as a youth peer support worker, consultant, academic and educator. I have worked for various public mental health services and universities.
My current role/work
Currently I am the Consumer Advisor at North West Mental Health and a Consumer Academic at the University of Melbourne
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and a Master's Degree in Narrative Therapy and Community Work. Even though I have these qualifications my practice is always informed by consumer perspective. I am also trained in Intentional Peer Support.
My approach to supervision
I use my understandings of Intentional Peer Support and Narrative Therapy in my supervision. This means my supervision is respectful, non-pathologising and non-blaming, which centres people as experts within their own lives.
My work believes that people are separate from their problems and have various skills, strengths and interests which can assist to reduce the impact of these problems.
